Destiny 2 is facing some server issues as players across the globe have started reporting outages. Luckily, Bungie has already indicated that they are aware of the “Destiny 2 is at capacity” errors and they’re already investigating the cause.
They have reported about the investigation on their official @BungieHelp Twitter profile. You can take a look at the tweet below:

This is not a common thing in Bungie’s book and ever since they’ve become independent studio they haven’t faced anything of this caliber. If we had to guess, it is probably a word about a rather simple than a complex issue, and knowing that Bungie is currently working on it, the servers will most likely recover very soon. We will update if any other info surfaces.
The developers have just posted an update on the current issue, stating that any player receiving the error should remain on the error dialogue window. That will allow them to remain in the queue which may result in a successful connection shortly after. Check the tweet below:
Players receiving the “Destiny 2 servers are not available” or “Destiny 2 Server Capacity” error messages should keep the message on their screen to stay in the sign-in queue. You will be connected to the game after a short delay.
