Mojang Studios announced Minecraft Dungeons 2 on March 21, 2026 during Minecraft Live, confirming a fall 2026 release window across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and both Nintendo Switch models.
The reveal arrived with an official trailer posted on X during the show. The short clip leaned into mood and setting rather than extended gameplay, and Mojang’s write-up for the trailer teased a new unnamed threat and promised “high-stakes encounters” and “never-before-seen locations.” Wishlisting was already enabled on relevant storefronts after the announcement.

Where this sequel came from
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in May 2020 as a top-down action RPG built by Mojang Studios with Double Eleven. That game reached more than 25 million players across platforms before development wrapped in November 2022, leaving the series inactive for a few years. Earlier leaks in 2025 identified the project as “Project Spicewood” and pointed to targets in mid-2026.
Switch support and last-gen omissions
Mojang confirmed a release on Nintendo Switch in addition to current-generation consoles and PC. The announcement makes no mention of PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and the reporting around the reveal noted the absence of those older consoles. The discussion suggested the decision could reflect the expense of porting to prior-generation hardware and Microsoft’s telemetry about how many players remain on Xbox One models.
Beyond the trailer and platform list, Mojang did not provide a specific day in fall 2026. More details, including gameplay footage and a firm release date, are expected in the months leading up to launch.
