FF7 Remake Part 3 director says graphics will not be lowered for a multiplatform launch

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 director Naoki Hamaguchi told Automaton that the visuals for the third installment will not be lowered to accommodate the multiplatform release.

Hamaguchi broke the studio’s approach into four technical areas. For ROM, he said no platform is a concern. For RAM he described the Switch 2 as having “ample” memory while acknowledging the Xbox Series S has more limited RAM, and added the team optimizes memory usage per platform.

On CPU differences, the director said the studio does not design the game to fully saturate a high-end CPU at 30 frames per second. Instead, the team scaless density elements such as NPC counts in towns to match each platform’s CPU profile.

For GPU work, Hamaguchi explained assets are authored for high-end environments first and then optimized down. He listed PC, PlayStation 5, and PS5 Pro as the highest-end targets, with optimizations applied for other systems after the primary assets are complete.

The team also confirmed Part 3 will continue using Unreal Engine 4. Coverage earlier in the series discussed a Switch 2 build and a broader multiplatform strategy; readers interested in how the first Remake installment performed on Switch 2 can read a related report about Intergrade on Switch 2.
