The Division 3 is in production and could match the first game’s reach, producer says

At the New Games+ Showcase on January 8, 2026, Julian Gerighty, executive producer on The Division 3, confirmed the project is in active production and called it an ambitious follow-up to the series.

Gerighty spoke directly about the state of the sequel and how the team at Massive Entertainment is handling development. He said, “So, The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret. It’s been announced. It’s shaping up to be a monster. I can’t really say anything more than that. But this is within these walls in Massive. We are working extremely hard on something that I think will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.” The quote was given during the showcase and is attributed to Gerighty.

Gerighty moved away from Star Wars Outlaws to focus on The Division 3 last year, and his comments suggest Ubisoft wants the next entry to recapture the strong response the original game got in 2016. There are still no screenshots or gameplay details available publicly, only the confirmation that development is ongoing.

Meanwhile, support for The Division 2 continues. Recent patches and events keep the live game active, including the Title Update Y7S2.1, which shows Massive has not abandoned the existing player base as work continues on the sequel. No release window was mentioned. Gerighty’s remarks are the clearest public update so far that development is moving forward, but players should expect details to arrive slowly as Massive refines the project.

Tom Clancy's The Division 3

Julian Gerighty is returning to the Division brand he helped usher into the world. Gerighty has been appointed Executive Producer for The Division Brand, and will make the move once Star Wars Outlaws – a game he is currently overseeing as Creative Director - has shipped.

Gerighty is excited to return The Division. Before he joined Tom Clancy’s The Division team as Associate Creative Director in 2014, he remembers seeing the promise in its first reveal at E3 2013. “I remember the gameplay promise – the co-op, PvP, the open world RPG aspects. Its world seemed very relatable, and very realistic, like you could really be an agent for change within it.”

After joining the team at Massive Entertainment – A Ubisoft Studio and shipping the original in 2016, he moved to Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 as Creative Director, where he and his team crafted a new adventure in the summertime streets of Washington, D.C. Now, he’s setting his sights on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, as well as the plethora of other projects set in The Division universe, including the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, and the survival-action shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland.
