Xbox Indie Selects for January 2026, featuring Demonschool, Morsels, Gigasword and more

On January 7, 2026, Xbox refreshed its Indie Selects hub with a seven-game collection aimed at bringing recent indie releases back into view. The collection lives at the Indie Selects hub on the Xbox site and will rotate weekly through themed spotlights.

Here’s a quick tour of the January picks and where to find them.

Demonschool

Demonschool mixes tactical, two-phase turn-based combat with campus life and a cast of oddball characters. The combat rewards careful positioning and action sequencing, and there’s a forgiving rewind feature that keeps the learning curve from getting brutal.

Morsels

Morsels is a creature-collecting roguelite where swapping between characters on the fly matters more than sticking with one favorite. It leans into strange visuals and experimental builds, with card-based modifiers shaping each run.

GigaSword

GigaSword is an action-puzzle Metroidvania that literally gives you a massive sword and asks you to live with the consequences. Weighty swings double as combat and puzzle tools, and the game leans on timing and environmental thinking rather than raw speed.

Goodnight Universe

Goodnight Universe casts you as Isaac, a six-month-old with psychic powers, and threads a short narrative through first-person puzzles and thought-diving mechanics. It’s compact and driven by its writing and performances.

Suzerain: Expanded Edition

Suzerain is a text-based government simulator where choices shape a fictional nation’s fate. The Expanded Edition bundles the Kingdom of Rizia DLC and stretches replay value across different political playstyles.

Rue Valley

Rue Valley is a cozy mystery with life-sim elements and a 47-minute time loop. It’s paced for players who like exploration and character-driven scenes more than fast action.

Xbox also teased an Indie Selects Anniversary celebration on January 28, 2026, which will include giveaways, discounts, and other promotions tied to the collection. Keep an eye on the Indie Selects hub.

Angel Kicevski

I've spent half of my life playing video games, ever since the competitive 1.6 era. Now I am happily married to Margarita Kicevski, and have two beautiful children. My goal is to deliver fresh news and updates, but most of the time I want to work on guides. Since I have rebooted this website, I am planning on making it huge. Just you wait!
