THE FINALS adds 8v8 Point Break, a Rush-style attack and defend mode launching Dec. 10

Embark Studios is bringing Season 9 of THE FINALS on Dec. 10, and the headline addition is Point Break, an 8v8 attack-and-defend mode that plays a lot like Battlefield’s Rush, not coincidental given Embark’s DICE roots. The mode splits maps into sectors where two teams of eight fight over vault objectives. Attackers start with 30 revives and must interact with vaults to start a countdown that defenders can disarm. Clearing a sector gives attackers some revive tickets back; the match ends when attackers either clear every sector or run out of revives. Defenders, by contrast, have unlimited revives and only need to stop the clock.

Sector size and pacing change with the map. On SYS$HORIZON sectors felt tight and constant, forcing near-constant gunfights, while Monaco offered more room for coordinated pushes. Teams can play methodical, clearing objectives one by one with designated support roles to conserve revive tickets, or lean into hit-and-run chaos. Point Break also slots into THE FINALS’ existing casual rotation as an alternative to modes like Power Shift, and because objective play echoes Cashout, it’s a handy place to experiment with loadouts, swapping weapons, gadgets, and Specializations mid-match without much penalty.

There are other Season 9 changes beyond the new mode. The sponsor menu now lets players switch sponsors on the fly, and the World Tour screen replaces the old mode select menu. The seasonal soundtrack is also rolling out with the update. Players will get their first proper look when Season 9 arrives on Dec. 10, and Point Break should slot neatly into both casual playlists and larger team scrims thanks to its clear objective economy and room for tactical play.
