CD Projekt Red says there will be no Cyberpunk 2077 update for the game’s fifth anniversary

CD Projekt Red has confirmed it will not ship an update for Cyberpunk 2077 to mark the game’s fifth anniversary on 10th December. Community director Marcin Momot’s post on X says plainly, “We really appreciate everyone’s excitement around the game but we do not plan on releasing an update in December.

The statement pulls the rug out from fan speculation that the studio might mark the milestone with new content or a surprise drop. The chatter began after the official Cyberpunk account highlighted the game’s birthday alongside character birthdays, which many took as a tease. Interest in a celebratory update was amplified because third-party studio Virtuos has been credited with helping produce postlaunch work, and the game received a notable maintenance release earlier in the year.

Momot’s message is short but unambiguous: “We really appreciate everyone’s excitement around the game but we do not plan on releasing an update in December.” That quote comes directly from the platform where the community has been discussing anniversary plans. CD Projekt Red has not said it is ending support for Cyberpunk 2077, so a future update is still possible, but for now the company is not treating the fifth anniversary as an occasion for new patches or events. The decision will likely disappoint players who had been holding out hope for anniversary content, and it gives the community time to reset expectations for the rest of the winter season.
