Gray Zone Warfare tests a China Mainland server region to cut ping for players in China

Gray Zone Warfare is running a test of a new China Mainland server region aimed at players connecting from China, with early results showing significant latency gains. The developer says players who select the new China Mainland region should see lower latency and reduced packet loss, resulting in smoother matches and less rubberbanding. During the initial test phase, there was a reported drop of roughly 110ms to the median ping for players in China, and the team is no longer seeing the daily latency spikes that caused trouble at peak hours.

The game is not running on servers located in mainland China. Instead, a proxy is being used so that players in China can get better network quality; the region name is intended to help players identify the best connection option for their location. Players in the region are invited to connect to the new area and share feedback through the support channels. Use the support request form or consult the guide on in-game status notifications to understand what your connection indicators mean.

Patch 0.3.5.0 and system requirements

The region test arrives alongside Patch 0.3.5.0, which upgrades the game to Unreal Engine 5.5 and includes a range of performance and stability fixes, especially for lower-end hardware. For context, we covered the patch when it hit the public test branch and noted the engine upgrade and performance focus in detail. Minimum and recommended laptop requirements were also added to help players understand the hardware they can expect for a stable experience.

If you want the full breakdown of changes in Patch 0.3.5.0, see the full changelog on the Steam news page. Full changelog for Patch 0.3.5.0 and our coverage of the public test branch patch.
