Who needs Borderlands when you have the Macedonian version? Skopje ’83 has officially launched today on Steam, and it’s as wild as it sounds. Developed by Dark-1 and published by PM Studios, the game drops players into an alternate-history version of Skopje following an unknown catastrophe that’s turned the city into a playground for chaos, scavenging, and mutated horrors.
Styled like a gritty comic book come to life, Skopje ’83 combines fast-paced first-person shooter combat with rogue-lite progression. Each run reshuffles the city’s layout, enemy placements, and loot pools, ensuring that no two excursions into the ruined capital ever play the same. When you fall, and you will, the world rearranges itself before your subsequent descent into madness.
Your hub is the DOM, a mobile bus-base that serves as both refuge and workshop. Here, players can upgrade gear, craft blueprints, and literally drive their base through the city’s hostile streets. Between runs, it’s your lifeline, a piece of civilization rolling through the chaos.
The game features 51 achievements, partial controller support, online co-op, and full Macedonian language integration alongside English and Chinese. It’s a notable milestone for the local development scene, few projects capture the look and feel of the Balkans with such raw comic-book energy, occult undertones, and retro-futuristic flair.
