Battlefield 6 gold dog tags are back and the dev-hunt is officially open

A Battlefield developer shared a dog tag on X, confirming gold dog tags return to Battlefield 6 and can be taken via melee takedowns.

Battlefield 6 players have a new-old trophy to chase: gold dog tags are back, and one of the studio’s engineers just dangled theirs in plain sight. The move means the long-running tradition of trying to melee a developer and keep their tag is alive for DICE’s latest entry. Veterans of the franchise will know the drill. Battlefield 6 tags are collected the old-fashioned way, a melee takedown. Luca Ballore, a software engineer on the franchise, posted a photo of a DICE-marked dog tag, effectively opening what he cheerfully called “hunting season” for dev tags.

Ballore’s post is the clearest sign yet that the tradition is returning to live matches. If you want some context on how the game is shaping up beyond collectible bragging rights, DICE also rolled out a backend and progression adjustment earlier today, which should make some players breathe easier; our coverage of the backend stability work is worth a read here. DICE has also signaled broader progression and weapon changes in the pipeline, which you can read about in our breakdown here.

Yes, the tags appear in your in-game collection like before, which is both a humble scoreboard and a walking badge of shame for the dev you knifed. Expect rounds where players swarm anyone who looks like they might be on the studio payroll. Expect also a small subset of players to loudly brag about sledgehammer takedowns.

Primary developer confirmation and official details on Battlefield can be found on the official Battlefield site.

Well, ladies and gentlemen I'm glad to announce that the hunting season is finally OPEN. Come and take our dog tags on #Battlefield6 😈🔪 pic.twitter.com/00qUnTtN40

Have you already nabbed a dev dog tag? Drop your stories below if you managed to catch one alive or if a lucky sprint or an annoying pickaxe swing foiled your melee plans.
