On October 11, 2025, Rebecka Coutaz, General Manager of DICE in Sweden and Criterion in the United Kingdom, told the BBC that generative AI is “very seducing” but was only applied during the early stages of Battlefield 6 development. Coutaz said generative AI will not be used in any part of Battlefield 6’s gameplay or in-game content, and that the technology has been handled behind the scenes to give developers more time and space for creative work.
Coutaz described the technology as “very seducing,” and said that if AI can be used without breaking the game’s sense of wonder, it may help teams be more innovative and creative. Criterion design director Fasahat “Fas” Salim offered a similar view, noting that game developers are accustomed to working with rapidly evolving technology and are focused on how to adopt new tools productively within existing workflows.
Battlefield 6 carries heavy expectations for Electronic Arts after the troubled launch of Battlefield 2042. Early coverage has leaned positive for multiplayer, graphics, and sound design. DICE released a day-one update for Battlefield 6 that included over 200 fixes reflecting changes since the beta. PlayStation 5 owners who are active PlayStation Plus members will receive bonus XP per match when they squad up with other PS5 players.
Generative AI remains a prominent conversation in games and other industries. Some publishers are using AI to cut costs and speed up production, while DICE’s approach is to keep usage limited and focused on early, behind-the-scenes tasks.
