Gaijin Entertainment pushed a small but important update for War Thunder that fixes several combat, graphics, and interface bugs and adds a new compass option for pilots. The studio reports that a tricky armor penetration bug has been resolved, along with issues related to secondary fragments, naval interface glitches, and a range of audio tweaks.
What was fixed and added
A persistent problem where shells could appear to penetrate armor while a target was reversing has been identified and resolved. The issue arose from an incorrect calculation in explosion placement, which sometimes caused the blast to register behind armor. Reproducing the bug required online combat conditions, which made it difficult to isolate the root cause. Gaijin identified the error and applied a correction.
Secondary fragment behavior was also corrected. Damaged modules that should have been removed from a vehicle’s damage model, such as fuel tanks and certain spall liners, were still interacting with fragments and HE impacts in some cases. Now, modules that visually dissolve in the hit camera after destruction will no longer offer any post-destruction protection. Permanent modules like the cannon breech and engine will still interact with shells and fragments as usual.
Pilots can enable a compass in third-person plane and helicopter views. The new option sits at the top of the screen and is found inside Air Battle Settings and Helicopter Battle Settings. Naval Battles had a sporadic interface bug that caused icons and text to shift or become unreadable during long matches. The cause was identified and resolved, so the naval HUD should remain stable in extended combat situations. Several audio adjustments were also made, including tweaks to the tank gun sounds on both allied and enemy vehicles to convey direction and perceived range more effectively.
Patch Notes – War Thunder – 2.49.0.49
Aircraft
- F/A-18C Late (Germany) — a bug that made it impossible to guide APKWS II M282 and APKWS II M151 missiles has been fixed.
- Su-27SM — the position of the MFD page with the artificial horizon in the cockpit has been fixed. Su-17 (all variants), Su-22 (all variants) — polyurethane foam fuel tank filler has been added to wing fuel tanks. This reduces the likelihood of a fire or explosion when hit.
- F/A-18C Early, F/A-18C (Germany), F/A-18C Late (Germany), CF-188 icons for the GBU-12 have been changed.
Ground Vehicles
- A bug where some destructible modules, for example fuel tanks and spall liners would continue to affect secondary fragments and HE damage after being destroyed has been fixed. Said modules only include those that disappear after being destroyed. Permanent modules such as the cannon breech or engine still interact with shells and secondary fragments when destroyed as normal.
- BM Oplot-T — the thickness of the turret roof has been increased from 25 mm to 45 mm.
- BM Oplot-T — a bug that caused the specific area on the turret roof to have no armor has been fixed.
Graphics
- A bug where countermeasures hitting the ground would leave a very large crater has been fixed.
- A bug in cockpit view that made everything appear darker when SSAA and TSR were enabled has been fixed.
Interface
- A bug that could cause the interface in Naval Battles to stop displaying normally has been fixed.
- A bug where it was impossible to view the list of rewards for some achievements has been fixed.
- A bug where the vehicle rank requirements could be cut off in the Semper Fidelis marks of distinction on-hover popups has been fixed.
- A bug that caused the corresponding Pages of History achievement to not properly open when clicking on a vehicle’s available task marker has been fixed.
- A bug that caused the marker of the next weapon to be used in the Visual weapon selector to display incorrectly for asymmetrically mounted weapons that could not be dropped separately has been fixed.
More small fixes are listed in the full update notes. A radar target disappearance bug for some ground vehicles was fixed among other combat fixes. Several Multi-Vehicle SAM system errors were corrected, including a bug that could kick a player out of a nuclear aircraft when certain TADS vehicles were destroyed. Multiple audio adjustments were made, improving direction and range cues for tank gunfire on allied and enemy vehicles.
