While playing the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta, many players noticed that any attempt to type “Arc Raiders” was automatically replaced with asterisks in lobby chat. A filter blocked the two words only when used together, behavior more typical of profanity filters, while other game names such as Battlefield 6 passed through unbothered.

Embark Studios leaned into the glitch, posting on its official X account: “We’re still on track to release *** ******* on October 30th!” The tongue-in-cheek post used the same asterisks and drew heavy attention online. After the post went viral, Activision stated to PC Gamer that the censoring was not intentional.

Activision described the issue as a “text filter error” and said it would be corrected shortly. Earlier this year, the EA app briefly filtered the same name, a hiccup logged on Reddit before it was fixed.
