Dune: Awakening patch 1.2.10.0 adds vehicle recovery so sandworms no longer mean permanent loss

Funcom's update introduces a Vehicle Recovery mode that restores owned vehicles for a fee but reduces maximum repairable durability by 15% per recovery.

Funcom has changed one of Dune: Awakening‘s harsher consequences with patch 1.2.10.0. Players no longer have to accept permanent vehicle loss when a sandworm swallows a ride, though a recovery system comes with a cost. Patch 1.2.10.0 introduces a new Vehicle Recovery mode inside the Vehicle Backup Tool. When owned vehicles are removed from the world by a sandworm, Coriolis storms, or destruction in combat, they can now be recovered for a Solari fee from that Recovery mode, according to Funcom.

Recovered vehicles return fully repaired and fueled, but they will lose 15% of their maximum repairable durability each time they are brought back. Funcom also notes a time limit on recoveries. Vehicles marked for recovery must be retrieved within 72 hours, otherwise, they will be considered lost forever. Up to five cars can be marked for recovery at once. Players who lost rides due to obvious bugs, such as lag or glitches, will likely welcome the change.

Funcom acknowledged situations where players clearly should have escaped a sandworm but instead had their vehicle explode and vanish. The new recovery option mitigates the impact of those cases while still imposing a penalty for repeated rescues. Additional details and the complete list of changes are available in Dune: Awakening’s patch notes. Quick tip – marking vehicles for recovery does not happen automatically. Use the Vehicle Backup Tool’s new Recovery mode before the 72-hour timer runs out.

Features and Changes

Resources, Building, and Crafting:

  • The construction tool now features a ‘Replace’ mode that can be used to replace building pieces with other compatible pieces. Allowing you to quickly upgrade your bases to new sets.
  • The piece picker is now a separate action available in both the build and replace modes.
  • Windtraps will now stop consuming filters if the base’s water storage is full.
  • Added a status notification when the player enters a sub-fief they have access to.
    • As you enter, the notification will appear on the right side of your screen that will show the status of the shields, power, and taxes.
  • Updated loot in PvP areas to be instanced, similar to loot in PvE areas. This means that every player who loots a container in a PvP area will get their own personal loot. This is to ensure that doing an activity and clearing out an area always has value and rewards for the effort.
    • To support PvP Loot becoming Instanced, the PvP loot tables have been balanced to fit the experience of everyone getting their own loot. PvP Loot still has increased drops compared to the PvE Loot.
  • Reduced the Old Imperial Component crafting cost requirement for the MK3 Buggy modules, as they were more expensive than other tier buggy modules.
  • Updated the loot pools of crashed ships to include new unique items.
  • Changed the description of the Unique Literjons to better explain their purpose.
  • Added 17 new Dune Man building pieces:
    • Dune Man Corner Column
    • Dune Man Center Column
    • Dune Man Ramp
    • Dune Man Stairs
    • Dune Man Triangle Floor
    • Dune Man Triangle Foundation
    • Dune Man Wall 2
    • Dune Man Triangle Wall Bottom Left
    • Dune Man Triangle Wall Bottom Right
    • Dune Man Triangle Wall Top Left

    • Dune Man Prudence Door
  • Categorized the Dune Man building pieces into their own section within the construction tool with a new icon.
  • Increased bank inventory slot count from 25 to 500.
  • Increased bank inventory volume from 1,500 to 30,000.
  • Dune Man Garage Door has been improved to allow the Treadwheel to fit through when it is open.

Combat:

  • The rocket launcher can now lock on characters again, but it also requires a target lock before being able to fire, both against characters and vehicles.
  • Improved consistency of infantry missiles to hit their targets.
  • Several of the target NPCs in the Desert Ghoul’s assassination contracts are now slightly tougher.
  • Spitdart Rifles now have their own weapon sub-category in the customization menu.
  • Homing missiles now lose lock if they travel past their target at an angle of 90 degrees or more.
  • Modified Dash Stamina Cost while affected by the SuspensorBlast and Crippling Strike Debuffs.
    • Dashing while being affected by these will now cost 33% more than the base line instead of 100%, this brings these abilities inline with others effects.
  • Crippling Strike will no longer slow the character to a crawl, Instead sprinting is blocked so the player can only walk or dash while affected.
  • Changed duration of:
    • CripplingStrike Debuff to 7.5 (From 7)
    • Suspensor Blast Debuff to 5 (from 6)
  • Adjusted player stamina regeneration delay to 1.0s from 1.2s.
  • Adjusted lower tier melee NPCs to react slower to stagger by dashing by around 1 second.
  • It is no longer possible to place a respawn beacon or other deployable tools inside Imperial Testing Stations.

Vehicles:

  • Added the ability to recover lost vehicles using a new mode in the Vehicle Backup Tool.
    • When vehicles that you personally own are removed from the world by the sandworm, coriolis storms, or complete destruction via combat they can now be recovered for a fee from a new Recovery mode in the Vehicle Backup Tool. In addition to a Solari fee, recovered vehicles will lose 15% of their maximum repairable durability each time they are recovered. Recovered vehicles are brought back fully repaired and fueled.
    • Note that vehicles destroyed in combat are not recoverable until they’ve been completely removed from the game world as to allow looting and other gameplay mechanics. Vehicles lost to the sandworm are immediately recoverable.
    • You must be the owner of a vehicle to recover it. Up to 5 vehicles at a time are available for recovery. Vehicles in the recovery tool must be recovered within 72 hours. Afterwards they will be lost forever.
    • Vehicles lost prior to the release of this patch can’t be recovered with this feature yet.
  • With the introduction of vehicle recovery, the Vehicle Backup Tool has become a multi-functional tool, enabling both vehicle backup and recovery. As a result, when the tool is unholstered, you cannot use abilities or the primary interaction key – consistent with the behavior of other multi-functional tools in the game. The Vehicle Backup Tool was never intended for use in high-intensity situations.
  • it is not possible to interact with a vehicle while having a Vehicle Backup Tool unholstered. Holster it to interact with the vehicle normally.
  • A red projection will now be visible when using the Vehicle Backup Tool if there’s no valid location for placing the vehicle.

  • Resource delivery contracts from Stranded Merchants now include a first step to acquire the resource to be delivered.
  • Players in the same party are now grouped together when attempting to join some instanced maps.

Deep Desert and Landsraad:

  • We have implemented a new loot structure for the Deep Desert. Schematics no longer rotate on a weekly basis. Instead, all schematics are able to be acquired each week, except for the ones reserved for Landsraad vendors. Schematics belong to Location + security zone specific loot-pools, such as PvP Testing Stations, Shipwrecks or PvE Testing Stations. Some schematics belong to multiple pools.
    • The goal is to allow for each area in the Deep Desert to be valuable to explore, while also allowing for rare items to become more available.
  • Players will now obtain a player start near one of the Taxi services in the Deep Desert. This gives all players access to the taxi service to escape the Deep Desert safely.
