Bungie has backtracked on a planned power reset for Destiny 2 ahead of the upcoming Renegades expansion. Developers had previously warned that the expansion would knock everyone back to 200 power and remove seasonal infusion materials. Community backlash grew as the grind intensified, and Bungie changed course. Monday afternoon, Bungie announced three key adjustments to how power will be handled going into Renegades.
As we continue to develop Power and Progression changes for Destiny 2: Renegades, we'd like to announce the following changes:

Bungie announcement
- Seasonal power will not be reset in Renegades. You will stay where you are, and no one will be knocked down to 200.
- Unstable Cores, the primary infusion material for gear in current seasons, will not be deleted.
- Next week, there will be a catch-up boost to raise everyone’s baseline to 300.
Questions remain about how rewards will land once the expansion goes live. Players already above certain thresholds are automatically getting Tier 3, 4, or 5 seasonal gear. If a future power cap increase follows Renegades, many could effectively start the expansion with high-tier seasonal weapons and armor, which undermines the point of a fresh power curve. Critics say the new power system created a grind that few enjoy. Adjustments like the preservation of Unstable Cores and a 300 baseline boost are damage control inside a system that still needs more explicit rules on progression and reward pacing. More details will arrive on Thursday.
