Megabonk currently does not have online or local multiplayer. The developer, known as vedinad on Discord, says they would like to look into adding it, but can’t promise anything yet. Megabonk is a fast and eccentric roguelike that has been built by a tiny team, in this case, one person who goes by vedinad. That makes the game feel tightly focused, but it also means that prominent technical features, such as multiplayer, require extra work and planning.
On the Megabonk Discord server, vedinad answered a question about multiplayer by saying they want to look into it but can’t promise anything yet.
Currently, the game lacks online multiplayer and local co-op, making it a strictly single-player experience. That means if you were hoping to buddy up and tackle the hordes together, you’ll need to wait until, and unless, vedinad decides to implement some form of multiplayer – whether that would be co-op, PvP, or something else is unknown.
Some other roguelikes, like Enter the Gungeon and The Binding of Isaac, have managed to include multiplayer options, so the idea is not outside the realm of possibility. Still, adding multiplayer to a one-person project is a different kind of challenge than adding new items or enemies.
This confirms Megabonk is a solo-only experience for the moment, and that any multiplayer would be a future addition if the developer moves forward.
