Gearbox revealed the first post-launch Vault Hunter for Borderlands 4 at the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, a robot named C4SH. The character is scheduled to arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2026 and will bring a luck-focused kit, along with a story tie-in.
Randy Pitchford took the stage to showcase C4SH, which was initially designed as a casino dealer bot and now hunts “cursed eldritch artifacts,”. The Vault Hunter will also appear in the upcoming story expansion titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, which will expand on their backstory.
The release window given is the first quarter of 2026, which runs from January 1 to March 31. Since C4SH was shown so soon after the main game launched, the debut could land earlier in that window rather than later.
C4SH plays on the theme of chance. Their abilities and equipment utilize motifs such as playing cards and dice, and their action skills are described as “distinctly unpredictable.” Some effects can help the player, others might buff allies, and lucky rolls could yield modest bonuses or much bigger damage spikes depending on the outcome. Pitchford even mentioned that his own throwing card demonstrations were used by animators when building C4SH’s moves, which gives the character a bit of performative flair.
Players who enjoy high-risk, high-reward builds should watch this one. The character’s focus on luck means C4SH could feel wildly different depending on how the randomness lands, and that ties neatly into the story expansion they appear in.
