Remedy will deploy a sweeping free update called Breakpoint for FBC: Firebreak on Monday, aiming to change how missions are chosen and to add a new Job, onboarding, enemies, and a roster of system tweaks. The studio states that the patch is intended to reset the core experience and establish a firmer foundation for future support.
At the center of Breakpoint is a complete rethink of mission selection. The old Jobs board, which let players pick and customise mission length and difficulty, is being removed and replaced by a Crises board. Crises offers a tailored set of Jobs with preset lengths that refresh every 30 minutes, a design that echoes Warhammer 40,000 Darktide’s rotating mission screen. Remedy explains the change by saying, “[The] Firebreak (initiative) was formed to manage an ongoing crisis, and as a first responder, you should be reacting to dynamic, unpredictable dangers, not being asked to create danger for yourself.”
That new system also shifts how replay value works. Jobs will now feature random alternative objectives during missions, and health and ammo locations can be shuffled, so runs feel less repetitive. Remedy says it is “exploring ways to bring back more customisation in the future“, which means players will have less direct control over the exact mission structure for now.
Breakpoint introduces a new job, codenamed Outbreak, centered on a spreading mold infection in the research sector of The Oldest House. The update introduces two new mold variants: stationary Mold Turrets and lumbering Mold Walkers. Those enemies can spread the contagion, turning foes into bigger threats or even converting allies into turrets.
New player onboarding is another priority. Breakpoint includes a playable Orientation level that walks rookies through basic systems, a “Welcome to Firebreak” overview video, and dedicated videos for each Job. Those additions address a frequent complaint that the game once assumed deep familiarity with Control, leaving new players adrift in The Oldest House.
