Treyarch has detailed Overload, a new multiplayer mode for Call of Duty Black Ops 7, during its Multiplayer Deep Dive. The mode will be playable in the open beta and changes how teams score by centering play around a single Overload device.
What is and How Overload plays
According to the Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Deep Dive, Overload is a 6v6 respawn mode where one Overload device spawns on the map at a time. Teams race to pick it up, protect the carrier, and escort it into one of two control zones placed near the opposing team’s spawn to score a point.
Once a team captures the device, they must move the carrier into enemy territory and defend it until the point triggers. When a point is scored, a new device spawns, and its location appears on the HUD and Tac-Map. Any player carrying the item receives a personal radar that shows nearby enemies trying to steal it. At halftime, teams switch sides, and the team with the most points wins. Overload forces continuous skirmishes around a single objective, which should change popular routes and defensive play. The personal radar on carriers creates risk and reward, and it will be interesting to see how loadouts and perks shift during the open beta.
Want to know how the mode will intersect with other multiplayer systems? Keep an eye on objective spawns and map flow, because those will decide whether Overload feels tactical or just chaotic.
Release details
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 launches November 14, 2025 on PC (Steam, Battle.net), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game is developed by Treyarch with support from Raven Software and published by Activision.
If Overload changes how matches feel, it will matter most to team players who can protect a carrier and to solo players who love stealing objectives, so expect different squads to try other tactics early in the beta.
