Megabonk launched on Steam on August 18 and has already pulled in thousands of players, peaking at 18,085 concurrent users while earning a 96% overwhelmingly positive user rating. The small indie scrapper has found traction despite launch day warnings about a crowded release calendar.
The developer, Vedinad, calls Megabonk “kind of like Vampire Survivors on steroids,” and the comparison lands. The game blends the horde survival feel of Vampire Survivors with wider, more open 3D arenas that read like Risk of Rain 2. Movement is brisk and aggressive, the action keeps rolling, and the roster gives players plenty to test, with 20 characters and more than 70 items that create a long list of synergies and builds.
Vedinad said they were told not to release on that date because of major launches, but pushed ahead anyway, saying, “I don’t care – boom! Megabonk is out right now.” That bold call seems to have paid off, as word of mouth and early positive reviews drove the spike in players and the “overwhelmingly positive” tag on Steam.
