Borderlands 4, developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, includes collectible Dead Bolts scattered across its regions. This guide lists the locations of all 10 Dead Bolts in The Fadefields, along with brief directions, making each one easier to track down.
Dead Bolts are remnants of characters who had Bolts installed by the Timekeeper; interacting with them reveals a final line or memory. The game world is full of collectibles beyond these, including Echo Logs and Evocariums, so Dead Bolts form just one small subset of collectibles. Each entry below names the region and gives a simple route to the bolt, starting with Coastal Bonescape.
Coastal Bonescape
Fishin’ Spot Dead Bolt Location
The first Dead Bolt sits in Coastal Bonescape at a location called the Fishin’ Spot, a lake in the central northern part of the area. Reach the island in the center of the lake and look for a small boat on the shore; the dead NPC has the Dead Bolt beside them. This is usually encountered early, right after the tutorial, so it may be one of the quickest to collect.
Sandytoes Villa Dead Bolt Location
Sandytoes Villa sits on the far western shore, north of Stillshore where the Vault Key Fragment is found and Sarrett’s Jetty where a Survival Cache appears. The Dead Bolt is on the dock behind the house, sitting alone. Coastal Bonescape contains these two approachable bolts before moving on to The Howl.
The Howl
The Kit Hole Dead Bolt Location
The Kit Hole bolt is northwest of the Order Silo in The Howl; head into the woods and search a large Kratch nest area. One nest will contain the Dead Bolt resting on it near a dead creature. This section requires a bit of walking, but landmarks like the silo and the Kratch nests make the bolt easy to spot.
West of Shut-Eye Keep Dead Bolt Location
Teleport to the Shut-Eye Keep safehouse if available and head west along the road that runs northwest, then cut southwest across a lake. A small camp next to the water has a dead NPC and the next Dead Bolt nearby. Use the safehouse as a starting point to shorten the route.
Hungering Plain
Hill Overlooking Horace’s Oversight Dead Bolt Location
This bolt sits on a hill southeast of Horace’s Oversight where a rail runs over the map. Look for a flipped car buried in dirt; an NPC and the Dead Bolt are nearby. The hill is distinctive on the map and the rail is an easy navigation aid.
Ripper Camp Dead Bolt Location
The Hungering Plain’s second bolt is on the northern edge close to Dominion in a small camp. Find an A-shaped house with a cage beside it; the Dead Bolt sits next to the cage. This one is tucked into the border area so keep an eye on the map edge.
Idolator’s Noose
Tetanus Quad Dead Bolt Location
Tetanus Quad is south of the Someday Rise safehouse and contains a large grinder in its center. The Dead Bolt sits in front of that grinder, easy to spot once in the plaza. This region has three bolts, so take a moment to sweep the area thoroughly.
Rosemary’s Reserve Dead Bolt Location
Rosemary’s Reserve houses its bolt at the northern end near a body of water; a dock marks the spot and the Dead Bolt floats beside a drowned NPC. That same northern area also hides a Vault Key Fragment needed to reach Primordial Guardian Inceptus. It’s worth checking the shoreline carefully while searching.
Mirehome Dead Bolt Location
The Mirehome bolt sits on the southern tip of Idolator’s Noose and can be reached by dropping down from Wyclef’s Reprieve safehouse above it. Locate the house in the center of the Mirehome and look for a gravestone with the Dead Bolt placed on top. This bolt is straightforward if approaching from the safehouse.
Dissected Plateau
The Killing Floors Dead Bold Location
The final Dead Bolt in The Fadefields is in the Dissected Plateau near the Killing Floors building. Instead of entering, follow the road on the building’s northeastern side to the water behind it. A small patch of land with a Red Chest marks the Dead Bolt’s location next to that chest.
For reference, Borderlands 4 lists features such as Online Co-Op and Online Multiplayer, and was noted with a release window on the game’s info card. These Dead Bolt locations span the map but rely on clear landmarks: docks, camps, grinders, and flipped vehicles all point the way.
