Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered now has a working multiplayer mod that lets players swing around New York together – the closest thing we’ve seen to Insomniac’s canceled Great Web. The mod is by hbgda and lives behind a Patreon, so you’ll need a subscription to join friends on the same server.
The Great Web was a rumored live-service Spider-Man project from Insomniac that never came to fruition. If you want the leaked footage, watch the project’s trailer on YouTube and judge for yourself how close this mod comes to that vision.
According to reports, the multiplayer mod lets up to seven players share a server for free-roam and hideouts. The campaign and side quests don’t always play nicely with co-op right now – they’re accessible, but a bit janky – so expect the mod to feel more like a sandbox hangout than a polished online campaign.
The modder behind this build is available on Patreon; that’s where the files and access are hosted. Yes, it’s paywalled, which is a bummer if you just want to try it out with a group of friends.
There’s some footage circulating from a TikTok creator that offers a quick glimpse into how the mod works in practice. I haven’t paid for the mod myself, but the clips make it look like a fun place to hang out with pals, which is precisely what I always thought Spider-Man would be suitable for.
@creed_sm Been waiting on ts for months😭🙏 #spiderman #spidermanmultiplayer #marvelspiderman #spidermanps5
Who wouldn’t want to swing through Manhattan with friends and goof off a little? One small caveat: this is a modded experience on PC, so expect rough edges and occasional technical hiccups.
