Bungie announced today that longtime CEO Pete Parsons is stepping down and that Justin Truman will replace him as studio head. This shift matters because Parsons has been the public face of the studio for years and led big moments for Halo and Destiny…
Parsons joined Bungie in 2003 and became CEO in 2016. He helped guide the studio through major releases and its 2022 deal with PlayStation, and he also helped start the Bungie Foundation. Wow, that is a long run. Short and steady leadership. Big impact.
Parsons wrote in a post on Bungie’s site that after more than two decades, he had decided to pass the torch. His words were heartfelt and straightforward:
“After more than two decades of helping build this great studio, establishing the Bungie Foundation, and growing motivating communities around our work, I have decided to pass the torch,” Parsons said. “This journey has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply proud of the worlds we’ve built together and the millions of players who call them home – and most of all I am privileged by the opportunity to work alongside the great minds at Bungie.”
Justin Truman will step up as CEO. He joined Bungie in 2010 and worked on Halo: Reach as an engineer. Later, he became the Gameplay Experience Director on Destiny 2 and led community work. In Bungie’s announcement, Truman said the studio is “hard at work” on both Marathon and Destiny, and that players will see more later this year.
Here is Bungie’s official post. Bungie also shared the change on Twitter:

Many players will wonder what this means for live support and upcoming releases. Marathon has had a rocky lead-up, and Destiny 2 will continue to receive support. Are update schedules going to shift? Will studio priorities change? Guess we’ll watch how Truman handles community-facing work.
