War Thunder has released update 2.47.0.114, which brings several changes to aircraft handling, ground vehicle behavior, and bug fixes. These adjustments aim to improve gameplay accuracy and fix some quirks that players have been encountering.
One crucial change affects missile and bomb targeting in Realistic Battles. The limit on target angular speed before launching rockets or dropping bombs has been removed. This means AGM and guided bomb seekers won’t lose their targets when the aircraft maneuvers sharply. That should make air combat feel a bit smoother and less frustrating.
Some aircraft have also seen camera tweaks. Models like the JA37 variants, F-4 Phantom II, MiG-23, Su-24M, and others now have their third-person camera moved slightly farther away to help with maneuvering. It’s a small touch, but it could help pilots get a better view during tight turns.
Engine infrared emissions have been toned down on the Su-25T, Su-39, and Su-25SM3 based on real engine data. That might affect how heat-seeking missiles track them, which is kinda neat. Also, a bug was fixed on the JF-17 and Q-5L where players had to press the thermal button twice to turn off an extra thermal mode in the targeting pod.
For the Su-34, a research requirement was corrected, so unlocking the “KAB-1500Kr” modification now properly requires the “KAB-500Kr” modification instead of the wrong one. The F-5E variants can now launch only one countermeasure per launch instead of two, which changes how you might approach defensive tactics.
The F/A-18C Late had a bomb icon fixed to show laser-guided bombs instead of GNSS bombs correctly. Also, a bug that prevented bomb drops from altitudes above 20 kilometers was resolved. Wow, that must have been frustrating for high-altitude bombing runs.
Missile physics were tweaked as well; the drag coefficient for the AIM-26B Falcon missile was increased, based on original technical data from 1964.
Moving on to ground vehicles, the T-64 tanks now idle at 800 RPM instead of 600, which might change their behavior when stationary. The Type 99 tank’s anti-aircraft machine gun is now controlled by the gunner, which could affect teamwork during battles.
The Vilkas vehicle had its gun renamed from Mk.44 to Mk.44S, reflecting proper designation. Meanwhile, the machine gun ammo for 2S19M1 and 2S19M2 was reduced to 300 rounds total (five boxes of 60 rounds each). I wonder if that will make players more cautious with their firing.
Some other fixes include a bug in the “Pacific war (day)” benchmark where the camera would fly through thick dark clouds—now corrected. Also, multi-vehicle SAM TEL vehicles were removed from the “Vehicle Collector” profile showcase since they aren’t considered main vehicles.
Patch notes mention that only key changes are listed here, so there might be smaller fixes not detailed. Gaijin continues to listen to community feedback from their bug reporting service and forums to prioritize fixes, especially those that impact gameplay heavily.
What do you think about these changes? Will the removal of angular speed limits for missile targeting make dogfights more forgiving? Or will reducing countermeasures on the F-5E push players to be more strategic? Let’s chat about it in the comments below.
