Before it all went deep down in the waters, Sea of Thieves has noted quite a success. However, Sea of Thieve’s somewhat repetitive content made the game lose lots of its player base. Judging the inner side of common sense, the developers have to do something and try to return where it was at launch. Therefore, the developers are most likely thinking of adding nowaday’s most popular game mode, Battle Royale.
Sea of Thieves is most likely to receive a Battle Royale mode judging built from scratch. It’s not just the game mode that pulls players in, but it’s the variety of game style it offers. The Battle Royale mode suits every single video game in its inner elements, no matter the mechanics or gameplay it already possesses.
Looking at it from a neutral perspective, Sea of Thieves could bring its fashion within Battle Royale. The game has its own and unique mechanics, but there’s the fear of failure. Things could turn south instantly if the game embraces ship fights, which again, it might become a Battleship Royale, which in the end it doesn’t sound that wondrous.
However, more about the Battle Royale mode has been said by Rare’s Craig Duncan and Mike Chapman regarding this situation:
I think there are so many examples of content in the game where we’re like, we always talk about the death mechanics and we turned it into the ghost ship. We put a Sea of Thieves spin on a familiar mechanic with new and interesting takes. We see the battle royale thing, but I think there will be opportunities to do that kind of thing differently. It’s interesting where you can take PvP in the game, but we’d want to put a unique Sea of Thieves spin on it and do something completely surprising.
Furthermore:
Our shared world is unique and the thing we’re most proud of is what you see, is a new I.P. and we wanted to do things differently – it has landed well with players and the feedback we’re getting is, “We love this foundation that you built. I just want to have more of it,” and that’s what we set up the team to do. The fact that we’ve kind of changed the perceptions of multiplayer, and the way we use mechanics in our world? We always want to surprise people. We want to keep doing these kinds of unexpected things that only we can do.
If you read between the lines, you could easily understand that Rare tends to follow the player’s feedback and unleash their creativity from there. However, it may be hard to boil since it’s a little too late for a BR genre. However, it’s the best to leave the big names to make the calls.
