The First Descendant’s AI Ads Stir Controversy Over Fake Content Creators

Nexon's AI-generated ads mimic real creators without permission, sparking player backlash.

The First Descendant has found itself in hot water after a wave of AI-generated ads surfaced online, promoting the game with what appears to be fake versions of real content creators. The whole thing feels kinda sketchy, especially since these AI clones weren’t cleared with the creators themselves.

These ads popped up on TikTok from the official game account, pairing gameplay footage with AI-generated avatars that mimic actual streamers or influencers. Reddit users spotted the ads first, and then we reported on them shortly after.

Check out some examples here:

Fans aren’t excited. Many pointed out that Nexon could’ve easily reached out to real players or streamers to create authentic clips. Instead, they went with these AI-generated promos that come off as lazy and kinda disrespectful.

One Reddit user, TizMarcoMania, put it bluntly: “There are plenty of people they could have asked to make a short clip. They should have reached out to anyone who plays the game and just asked them. Use of AI for marketing is just plain bad.”

Another user, iHardlyTriHard, added some extra context: “Nexon is currently running a TFD Season 3 promotion event for Nexon Creators where they are giving them Nexon Creator points (or whatever it’s called). They have the tools and content they need, they just are opting for AI slop instead.” Why choose AI when you already have real creators on board? Yikes.

Despite the drop in hype, SteamDB shows the game still pulls between 10,000 and 18,000 daily players, which isn’t huge but shows there’s a small, loyal community hanging on.

What’s your take? Would you be okay with AI-generated ads using real creators’ likenesses without permission? Or is this just crossing a line? Let’s talk about it in the comments below!
