Schedule 1 has received a fresh beta update on Steam, introducing a rival cartel called the Benzies Family alongside several other additions. Players had a say in what would come next, and the developer delivered what the community wanted most.
Back in June, a community vote asked whether players preferred a rival cartel, police expansion, or shrooms for the next update. The rival cartel option won clearly. The update, version 0.4.0, is now accessible via the Steam beta branch, although it arrived a bit later than expected due to the developer underestimating the work involved. They’ve also been working on official Steam Deck support and a console port planned for later this year.
The Benzies Family is a powerful new rival cartel located at Hyland point. Players will meet them after unlocking a few customers in Westville. Interactions with the Benzies Family range from cooperative cartel-player deals when trust is established, to hostile encounters like ambushes, dealer robberies, and dead drop thefts. Cartel-customer deals are also part of the mix. It sounds like this cartel can be a friend or a foe, depending on how you play.
New Schedule 1 Property: ‘The Manor’
A brand-new property called Hyland Manor has been added, but you can only purchase it after completing the Benzies Family storyline. Some players had already discovered this property a few months ago. It’s the largest in the game so far, with four bedrooms upstairs and two spacious reception rooms on the ground floor. It might become a nice home base for players who finish the cartel’s quests.
New Vehicles, Weapons, Cosmetics, and More
- A pump shotgun and compatible shotgun shells have been added for players who like a bit more firepower.
- A new vehicle named ‘Hotbox’ fits the game’s style and is now available.
- Three new hairstyles join the cosmetic options: close buzzcut, Tony, and long slicked back.
- Three new commands have been introduced:
setgravitymultiplier
,setregionunlocked
, andforcesleep
. - Loading screens now feature more hints to help players along.
Gameplay Improvements
Several changes aim to adjust gameplay and improve the overall experience. Each region now has a ‘cartel influence’ level that players must reduce to progress to new areas. Multiplayer players can see NPC dialogue from other players, which might add some interesting dynamics.
- Deals cancel if the assigned dealer is dead or unconscious.
- NPCs unconscious and dropped in the ocean will die.
- Dead or unconscious NPCs and police can be pickpocketed.
- Customers attacked will not place orders for 72 hours.
- Vehicle braking has been adjusted for better control.
- Non-police NPCs now carry ranged weapons.
- Police and NPCs sometimes predict future target positions instead of moving directly.
- Flashlight brightness has been tweaked.
- Minor script refactoring has been done.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed mislabeling in employee tutorial quests.
- Resolved issue with two light beams visible when flashlight is equipped.
- Corrected NPC ragdoll LOD and culling problems.
- Fixed missing walls at Hyland Medical.
- Improved third-person recoil animations for M1911 and Revolver.
- Net worth calculator now accounts for all item quantities.
- Vehicle impacts no longer cause excessive damage to NPCs.
- Fixed missing fonts.
Graffiti Coming Soon to Schedule 1
The developer posted on X (formerly Twitter) that graffiti might be included in the next beta patch or the one after. That could add a new layer of style or chaos, depending on how it’s implemented. Curious what that will look like?
