War Thunder has just released update 2.47.0.72, introducing several radar improvements for jets, important bug fixes for naval vessels, and new sounds for artillery and engines. If you fly jets or sail ships in this war sim, this patch might change how your battles feel a bit.
Aircraft Radar and Camera Changes
- EF-2000, Typhoon FGR.4, F-2000A — The radar’s track and contact matching in TWS mode have been improved, cutting down on those annoying phantom targets popping up on your radar screen. Scan zone sizes got tweaked for easier use. They removed the limit on how fast you can roll-stabilize the radar scan zone and added electronic stabilization instead, which should make tracking smoother. Plus, a new TWS GMTI mode is added for tracking ground targets. The IRST (infrared search and track) system now acquires targets faster and scans wider zones quicker, with roll stabilization added there too.
- F-15, F-16, F/A-18, MiG-29, Su-27, J-11, Su-30SM, Su-33, Su-34 — The third-person camera got nudged slightly further back to help with maneuvering. You might find it easier to see your plane’s movements and surroundings now.
Naval Vessels
- A bug that prevented the research bonus from applying to Rank VII naval vessels has been fixed. This means you should see proper progression benefits on those higher-tier ships again.
Locations and Missions
- Malta — Fixed a visual glitch where some grass disappeared or showed the wrong color. The scenery will now look more natural.
Sound Updates
- Ammo explosions on naval vessels now have distinct sounds, making naval combat feel more intense and realistic.
- All variants of the M109 artillery, including the XM975, have received their own engine sounds. That should add some flavor to those pounding bombardments.
Patch notes represent key highlights, so some minor tweaks might not be listed. The developers take community feedback from the Gaijin bug reporting service, forums, and other channels seriously, fixing issues based on their impact.
If you’ve been flying the EF-2000 or sailing Rank VII ships, this update might make your next sessions smoother and more interesting. Curious if these radar tweaks will really cut down on those phantom targets? I know I am. What about the new sounds? Will they add that extra punch to naval battles? Only one way to find out!
