Pokémon Champions is preparing to be a fresh way for trainers to battle, with connectivity to Pokémon Home confirmed and a release planned for 2026. While the wait might feel long, these details hint at some interesting new features for competitive play.
The game was first teased during Pokémon Day earlier this year, and more info came out in the recent Pokémon Presents stream. Trainers will be able to bring their Pokémon from Pokémon Home into the game or recruit new ones within it. This means your collection won’t feel left behind once you jump into Pokémon Champions.
Players will battle others worldwide in ranked matches, with private battles also available for more casual or friendly competition. Battles come in two varieties: single and double, allowing for strategic differences depending on the format.
Training your Pokémon for battle will involve using in-game items to boost stats and abilities. What’s still unclear is whether these items will be earned purely in-game, bought, or a mix of both. That’s an important detail for anyone worried about pay-to-win mechanics.
Pokémon Champions will be available on Nintendo Switch consoles and mobile devices, providing players with flexibility in their gameplay. The developers have suggested it might become the main platform for competitive Pokémon battles in the future, potentially replacing current formats.
If the timing works out, Pokémon Champions could even be part of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. That would be a big shift for the competitive scene, though we’ll have to wait for more confirmation.
Are you planning to jump into Pokémon Champions when it arrives? What do you think about the connection to Pokémon Home?
