Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has officially been slapped with an ESRB “M for Mature” rating, which honestly isn’t shocking given the franchise’s track record. The last mainline CoD game without an M rating came out back in 2006 with Call of Duty 3. So yeah, it’s pretty much a tradition at this point.
The ESRB summary gives us a peek behind the curtain, revealing the campaign’s basic premise: players will be trying to stop some tech titan from grabbing power Some of the enemies you’ll face are “robots [and] creatures.” Wait, what? Robots and creatures in Black Ops? That’s a little off the usual beaten path for the series, right? You’d think this means the game might lean into some sci-fi or futuristic horror elements.
The ESRB also confirms the usual array of weapon-based combat and execution moves, which you probably expected. The violence is what lands the game an M rating, no surprises there. But that small story detail about robots and creatures definitely piques my curiosity. Could this be a sign of Black Ops 7 pushing its narrative into stranger territory? Or maybe just more high-tech enemies to shoot at.
Remember, because the worldwide reveal is scheduled for Gamescom’s opening night live on August 19. I’m looking forward to seeing what Treyarch has cookin’ here, especially if those robots turn out to be more than just background fluff.
What do you think about Black Ops 7 getting another M rating? And how about that teaser with tech titans and robotic foes?
