Helldivers 3 is probably a long way off, as Arrowhead Game Studios is putting their attention squarely on the current game, Helldivers 2. The studio’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, has expressed a strong commitment to expanding and maintaining the second game rather than jumping to a sequel anytime soon.
Helldivers 2 is now well into its second year after launch, and it seems Arrowhead is happy to keep supporting it for as long as players stick around. Jorjani responded to a fan question on Discord, saying, “Honestly I’m very bought into the vision that Micke, Felix, Niklas and Marre (our game directors) and Johan have for the game. It’s great to be part of the ride. We honestly are focusing on the here and now. HD3 is hopefully many years away.”
Interestingly, Johan Pilestedt, the current creative director and former CEO, hinted at the end of 2024 that the team is “growing Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3.” Whether this means a gradual evolution of the existing game or a statement about future content remains a bit unclear. It does suggest, though, that the studio might be building a long-term plan around Helldivers 2 rather than rushing into a new title.
Arrowhead’s community manager, Katherine Baskin, responded on Discord, “I’m sure someone has thought about it, but it’s not something we’re focused on at all. Helldivers can run for a long time if people keep playing it.” It’s a reassuring message for fans who hope the game will have a long lifespan, even without immediate plans for a third installment.
So, what does all this mean? If you’re a fan of Helldivers 2, it looks like you can expect ongoing updates and support for quite some time. The idea of a third game is forthcoming, but it’s not something the team is rushing toward; instead, they prefer to build on the current experience.
