Blizzard has confirmed that BlizzCon 2025 will not take place. Instead, fans must wait until September 2026 for the beloved event to return after a two-year break. This news might feel like a punch to the gut for many, but Blizzard is committed to making their next gathering truly special.
“We’ve come a long way since our first event in 2005,” Blizzard stated in an official announcement. “Over the past nearly 20 years since its inception, BlizzCon has inspired us to push the boundaries of creativity and deliver once-in-a-lifetime moments. It’s important that we put on an event worthy of our community.” With such high expectations set by the developers, they’re clearly aiming for something memorable.
The next BlizzCon is scheduled for September 12-13 in Anaheim, California. Blizzard is already working hard planning various activities, including an opening ceremony, detailed panels, the Darkmoon Faire, friendly competitions, and hands-on gameplay opportunities. It sounds like they want to create an experience that resonates deeply with attendees.
“We are building this event just like we build our games: with a deep commitment to our players and respect for your connections to our universes,” they added. This sentiment reflects Blizzard’s desire to celebrate the strong bonds formed through shared adventures within their gaming worlds.
Since 2020, BlizzCon has seen only two iterations: an online-only version in 2021 and an in-person gathering in 2023. The cancellation of BlizzCon 2024 in April raised eyebrows as no official reason was provided at that time. Blizzard mentioned that this decision was “not made lightly” and reassured fans that they planned on bringing the event back eventually.
