There’s something genuinely thrilling about watching a game come to life through its first gameplay trailer. PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has just released a glimpse into Prologue: Go Wayback! It promises to be quite the adventure.
This single-player open-world survival game is set to hit Steam Early Access in Summer 2025, and the trailer showcases an impressive array of in-game footage. Players will explore a vast wilderness that evolves with each session. The developers have cleverly woven together elements of adventure and discovery alongside intricate survival mechanics like caloric intake, body temperature management, and shelter creation.
The heart of Prologue: Go Wayback! Lies in its innovative terrain generation technology powered by machine learning. Each player’s journey will be distinct, starting from scratch as they learn to adapt and survive in this ever-changing environment. The ultimate goal? To reach the elusive Weather Tower while gathering resources scattered throughout the landscape.
On the technical side, the game is built using Unreal Engine, which will be combined with custom machine learning to produce millions of realistic maps for players to traverse. This technology is set to evolve further with an in-house engine named ‘Melba,’ which will be used in future titles, including a currently unannounced project, and ‘Artemis’, a massive sandbox experience designed for player creativity and freedom.
