Hey there, fellow survivors! The latest update for ICARUS, now in its 169th week, brings some juicy changes that are bound to stir excitement. With the introduction of a much-anticipated tree regrowth feature and a massive free content patch, players have plenty to look forward to. So, grab your gear as we break down what’s new!
This week marks the debut of the Localized Terraforming Device, a game-changer for anyone tired of barren landscapes. This nifty device allows trees to regenerate within its radius, giving players an opportunity to restore their environments while they explore. It operates similarly to the Thumper, but instead of focusing on ore replenishment, it focuses on bringing life back to the land.
The team at ConsolePCGaming.com is particularly excited about the upcoming Great Hunts DLC, which promises three distinct campaigns filled with branching missions. These missions will impact your persistent world sessions and culminate in epic boss encounters. But don’t worry if you’re not planning on purchasing the DLC; a hefty amount of new content will be available for free! You can check out the full-length trailer for Icarus: Great Hunts right here:
Notable Improvements:
- Fixed issue where non-boss versions of the Black Wolf that spawn as part of the enzyme geyser were not counting towards geyser progress.
- Fixed an issue where the Sand Worm’s health bar wasn’t initializing correctly for clients.
- Fixed Durability on railings to match their buildable scaling: Reinforced increased from 500 to 750, Clay Brick increased from 500 to 1000, Concrete increased from 750 to 1500.
- Updated textures of the German Shepherd for higher quality.
- Re-imported the Titanium Crossbow mesh with correct vertex normal settings.
- Updated Wood, Interior Wood, Reinforced Wood, Clay Brick and Concrete Railings to have more accurate collision so projectiles can be shot through them.
This Week: The Localized Terraforming Device
The introduction of tree regrowth is a significant shift for Icarus. Initially designed as a session-based survival experience where players would complete missions and extract quickly, feedback has led developers to implement an Open World mode. This change highlighted the need for a system like tree regrowth.
The Localized Terraforming Device requires power and consumes either Condensed or Synthetic Enzymes. When activated, it releases terraforming enzymes into the air, promoting tree growth around it. Obtaining these enzymes involves using Vapor Condensors placed atop Geysers or crafting them at the Chemistry Bench—both straightforward tasks that add depth without overwhelming players.
This Week: Tree Regrowth
The decision not to allow players to plant trees themselves was made with performance optimization in mind. Instead, this system simplifies implementation while still delivering on environmental restoration. As someone who often finds joy in rebuilding after chaos, seeing trees flourish again adds an emotional layer to gameplay that many will appreciate.
Coming Soon: Great Hunts
If you haven’t had your fill yet, there’s more! The Great Hunts Campaigns DLC is set to launch soon. Each campaign will feature branching missions with unique outcomes affecting your open world sessions. Players can expect legendary weapons tied to existing world bosses, each customizable with various attachments—upwards of 81 combinations!
