Interesting times lie ahead for DC fans! The talk around new video games set in the DC universe is heating up. Recently, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have been chatting it up with gaming giants like Rocksteady and NetherRealm. Yes, you heard that right! There’s a plan to create more interconnected stories across films, TV shows, and video games. How cool is that?
This past January, DC made waves by announcing their ambitions of crafting a cohesive media universe that includes video games tied into their larger narrative, and they spilled some juicy details during a recent event focused on these plans. Can you imagine Batman fighting alongside characters from “Peacemaker”? Just thinking about it gives me chills!
The dynamic duo of Gunn and Safran has expressed their commitment to working closely with JB Perrette, who oversees Warner’s global streaming and gaming divisions. “For the first time at Warner Bros., James and I sit down with studio heads like those at NetherRealm or Rocksteady, discussing characters we love,” Safran shared.
I’m already excited about what characters might make an appearance! Gunn added that they preview designs for projects in their earliest phases. He said they’re brainstorming story ideas together and even hinting at collaboration on characters based on what’s planned for upcoming movies or series.
You might want to hold onto your superhero capes because, sadly, we’ll have to wait a couple of years for the first DCU game release. That’s right. Gunn confirmed it’s still quite a ways off but reassured us that there’s active involvement happening behind the scenes, which is interesting!
The rumor mill is spinning too! There have been whispers about Rocksteady possibly developing a single-player Batman game, but hold your horses! It’s unclear whether this will be part of the Arkham franchise or something fresh within the new DCU context. Sources hinted that this title could take some time before it hits shelves.
This brings us to another project: Monolith Productions’ highly talked-about Wonder Woman game was announced back in 2021 but seems it too has hit some roadblocks as it’s reportedly going through a reboot process before its launch, which won’t happen anytime soon either! You can check out more information over at Bloomberg’s site if you’re curious.
Please feel free to share your thoughts or predictions in comments below, I’d love to hear from fellow gamers about which character you’d most like to see featured next!
