PlayStation 5 Surpasses 75 Million Sales Milestone

So, the PlayStation 5 has officially crossed the 75 million units sold mark. Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday, we were all scrambling to get our hands on one. During Sony’s earnings call, they shared this milestone, and wow, what a ride it’s been!

The gaming and network services segment took center stage today. In Q4 alone, 9.5 million PS5 consoles flew off the shelves. It’s not just hardware that’s thriving; PlayStation Network’s monthly active users jumped from 118 million in FY23 Q3 to 129 million in FY24 Q3. That’s a healthy community of gamers connecting over their favorite titles.

The PS5 and PS4 have amassed over 95.9 million units sold in software, up from last year’s 89.7 million, which is no small feat. First-party games accounted for about 11.6 million units sold during this period, slightly down from last year’s figures but still impressive overall. Interestingly enough, a solid 74% of those sales were full-game digital downloads – though that number dipped from last year’s high of 77%.

What does this mean for the future? Well, Sony believes that with upcoming releases such as Ghost of Yotei and the highly anticipated GTA 6 on the horizon, these numbers will only continue to climb.
