The excitement in the air is palpable as fans of Mortal Kombat 1 celebrate a milestone: over five million copies sold since its launch in September 2023. It’s not just a number. It reflects the game’s resonance with players, sparking discussions about future content and what’s next for this beloved franchise.
In a recent X thread, Ed Boon shared updates with fans that were buzzing. He confirmed that despite some rumors swirling around, there’s still life and plenty of action left in Mortal Kombat 1. The game remains firmly planted within the top 15 on PlayStation 5 regarding weekly active users, showcasing its ongoing popularity.

Boon also introduced Conan the Barbarian, who debuted as the game’s 11th DLC fighter on January 21. Following him will be none other than the T-1000 Terminator, adding even more excitement to an already diverse roster of fighters.
However, not all news has been met with cheers. Speculations arose concerning additional DLC due to disappointing sales figures from Kombat Pack 2 and the Khaos Reigns expansion. While there was no confirmation of another Kombat Pack or story expansion specifically mentioned by Boon, he hinted at further surprises heading players’ way.
“With Conan getting into player’s hands, we are excited to keep trucking forward with future DLC,” he posted, leaving many hopeful for what’s ahead.
The talk of potential cancellation regarding plans for a third Kombat Pack or additional story elements came from a franchise leaker. Yet there’s a glimmer of hope as they mentioned possible additions like “a kameo or two” after Conan and T-1000 due to existing work on them. It’s still a mystery topic as NetherRealm hasn’t fully addressed these claims.
