Scott Velasquez, the Senior Technical Director at Gearbox Entertainment, just dropped a massive bomb on LinkedIn, and it seems like he’s implying something quite dire.
He announced that he’s moving on to a new role at Gearbox Entertainment. He’s calling it “Builder of Stuff” – yeah, that’s the actual title he’s going with. But that’s not even the important part, as he also said, “RIP Gearbox Publishing, we had a good run.”
What does this mean for Gearbox Publishing remains unknown. The company could be shutting down or maybe merging, reforming, etc? We don’t have all the answers yet, but the way Scott put it makes it sound like Gearbox Publishing as we know it is done.
Scott also mentioned that he’s diving back into full-time game development on an unannounced title. That’s got to be exciting for him, and honestly, it’s pretty hype for us too. Gearbox has been behind some seriously epic games, so whatever they’re cooking next will be interesting.
