With the $460 million acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment, 460 million problems were expected to arise, and it seems like one of them has bursted online. Apparently, the company has been undergoing layoffs after Take-Two’s acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment.
However, despite the troubles, Gearbox has confirmed the layoffs (via GamesIndustry), saying that the layoffs are not tied to the game developments.
“Thank you for your thoughts and care for The Gearbox Entertainment Company as some reports of internal communication and actions are starting to flow through public channels. As we strive towards our mission to entertain the world, we are grateful that our talent and capability are of interest to you and your audience. The Embracer Group will continue to report on their restructuring program that impacted some parts of Gearbox today that are not tied to the development of Gearbox Software games.”
“Thank you for granting us the space to remain focused on our people and in our handling of the situation with compassion and manage the process, balancing between our present duty and a commitment to our future.”
The extent of the layoffs is still unknown, as PR manager Jennifer Locke didn’t reveal anything about her departure aside from the ordinary. In the meantime, 2K Games has announced that Borderlands 4 is in development, and Gearbox is working on other 6 projects, among which 5 are sequels and 1 is new IP.
Gearbox is having rough times, so let’s hope that they get out of this storm as soon as possible.
