Disney has just made a big move by investing $1.5 billion in Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite. They plan to work together to bring Disney’s famous characters and stories, like those from Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars, into Fortnite. This partnership is all about creating a new kind of experience in the game where players can create their adventures using Disney’s worlds, all powered by Unreal Engine.
Disney’s CEO, Robert Iger, said, “This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the game world and offers significant growth and expansion opportunities. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways.” They’re excited about mixing Disney’s magic with the popular game.
Tim Sweeney, the boss at Epic Games, mentioned how Disney was one of the first to jump into the idea of bringing their magical worlds into Fortnite. Now, they’re taking it a step further to build something new and big that will let the Disney and Fortnite fans unite uniquely.
Josh D’Amaro from Disney added that this tech and open ecosystem from Fortnite could help Disney reach people in new ways, letting them interact with Disney stuff wherever they are.
They haven’t spilled the beans on any other plans together, but we might start seeing Disney characters pop up in the main Fortnite game soon. Fortnite has already teamed up with many different brands and shows, like Dragon Ball and John Wick, so it’s not too far-fetched to think Disney characters are following.
