The host of the highly anticipated Game Awards 2023, Geoff Keighley, has announced tightened security measures to prevent past disruptions.
At a recent Q&A session on Twitch, Keighley responded to concerns regarding security measures for the upcoming event. He acknowledged the incidents that occurred during The Game Awards 2022 and Gamescom Opening Night Live, where uninvited individuals managed to get on stage. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of both the participants and the audience.
Keighley confirmed (via VGC) that while specific security plans were not disclosed for strategic reasons, significant efforts were being made to ensure the safety of everyone involved. He stated, “We definitely have plans and we’re trying to do all we can to keep me safe, but also everyone watching the show, the audience, people participating in the show and everything. It’s certainly something we’re thinking about. We appreciate the concern.”
The emphasis on security doesn’t overshadow the event’s core mission, however. Keighley emphasized the importance of celebrating the gaming community and its achievements: “Believe me, that’s something that is top of mind for us, but we also want to put on a great show that celebrates these games and celebrates our love of video games, so that’s an important thing to keep in mind as well.”
With these enhanced security measures, The Game Awards 2023 aims to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, while honoring the best in the gaming industry.
