50 Cent Joins PAYDAY TV Series as Executive Producer
Starbreeze Entertainment and VICE Studios are developing the series with G-Unit Film & TV.
PAYDAY is taking its masks and heists to television, with Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson named executive producer of the upcoming series. Starbreeze Entertainment, VICE Studios, and G-Unit Film & TV are producing the project together.
The appointment adds Jackson’s production company to Starbreeze’s plans for screen adaptations of the co-op heist franchise. The broader project was announced on March 18, when Starbreeze revealed its partnership with VICE Studios to develop both film and television adaptations.
G-Unit Joins the PAYDAY Project
Jackson brings experience from his work as a producer and director on shows including Power, BMF, and Fightland. His involvement also gives the series a producer closely associated with gritty crime stories and characters operating outside the law.
Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson said the company was careful about choosing partners who could expand PAYDAY beyond games without losing its identity. In the official announcement, he described the collaboration in characteristically direct terms: “Curtis and G-Unit don’t do subtle, and neither do we.”
PAYDAY’s Earlier Screen Deal Remains Unclear
Starbreeze also announced a separate agreement with Stockholm Syndrome in 2023 to develop a PAYDAY story for television or film. The latest project announcement does not explain whether that plan continues alongside the VICE Studios and G-Unit collaboration or has been replaced, leaving the franchise’s broader screen future unresolved.
PAYDAY’s Masks and Crew Move to TV
The games offer more than bank robberies and firefights. Their masked crews, criminal operations, and character histories give the television project a larger world to work with when the heists are not underway.
Amy Powell, president of VICE Studios, said in a statement provided to Variety that VICE was drawn to the franchise’s stories about people living outside conventional rules. She also pointed to G-Unit’s understanding of what makes PAYDAY distinct, suggesting the adaptation will not shy away from the series’ harsher tone.
VICE Studios is currently producing the fourth season of Gangs of London and has also worked on projects such as United Gangs of America, Hell’s Angels, Dark Side of the Ring, and Out of Bounds. The PAYDAY series remains in development, and no premiere date, cast list, or story details have been announced.
