The closed beta for 2XKO, Riot Games‘ new fighting game set in the League of Legends universe began on September 9, 2025 and is ongoing.
2XKO is in active development and its closed beta is running while Riot adjusts systems based on feedback. Player progress from the closed beta won’t carry over into 2XKO’s full release, so testers should expect a fresh start at launch. The beta currently offers nine playable characters and Riot has suggested more may be added over time. The emphasis for now is on online matchmaking and competitive systems which aligns with the game’s esports focus. Riot plans to refine gameplay and online services as player reports come in.
The closed beta includes an advanced tutorial that teaches core combat mechanics and how offense and defense interact in matches. Testers can enter public rooms to watch ongoing matches and queue up to fight real players, which gives the beta a social, competitive feel. Lobbies let players walk around as avatars and customise appearance before matches, with a wide set of choices. During play on PC the build ran smoothly with few stutters and polished animations. Community reaction on social media has been positive, and many players are trying to obtain invite codes.
Basic mechanics are approachable while character depth is substantial, so newcomers can get going quickly but still find long-term systems to master. Teams are made of two characters and switching between them mid-round is central to tactics and match flow. Fighters feel distinct because of differing ranges and tools, yet many advanced techniques are transferable between characters which helps when learning a larger roster. The tutorial breaks lessons into clear categories and moves between them in a sensible order, though mastering combos and timing will take practice. Visuals and presentation are strong and the avatar customisation in lobbies is broader than expected.
The beta shows a solid foundation: focused combat, smart tutorials, and lively online spaces. Content is currently limited compared with full releases but the core systems are promising for competitive play. As of September 16, 2025 a release date has not been announced.
