1047 Games Is Ending Active Development, but EMPULSE and SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded Will Stay Playable

Both games will move to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser on September 3, 2026, when dedicated servers and matchmaking will shut down.

1047 Games is ending active development on EMPULSE and SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, but it is not shutting either game down. On September 3, 2026, both shooters will move from dedicated servers and matchmaking to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser.

The studio said the decision came down to revenue. Neither game is generating enough money to cover the ongoing cost of dedicated servers, and 1047 Games said continuing to pay those expenses was no longer sustainable. The team had kept covering the costs to give both games more time to grow, but that approach could not continue indefinitely.

1047 Games laid out the plan in its Steam announcement, calling the decision difficult and apologizing to the players who supported both games.

What changes on September 3

When the transition takes place, dedicated servers and matchmaking will shut down for both titles. Peer-to-peer hosting and a server browser will take their place, allowing players to host matches, find games, and play with friends. Console play will remain available wherever technically possible.

The studio said it reworked EMPULSE and SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded for peer-to-peer play instead of simply taking them offline. 1047 Games also described the upcoming build of EMPULSE as the game’s final version.

The change comes less than a month after EMPULSE Update #3 added ADS as a standard feature, introduced the Crescendo weapon, refreshed Plaza and Harbor, and brought in Custom Games. That release now stands as the last major content update announced for the game.

1047 Games is moving beyond live-service shooters

The end of active development also marks a new direction for 1047 Games. The studio said it had spent 10 years focused on live-service shooters, while its next projects may look very different from what players expect. According to the team, the lessons learned from that period will carry into whatever it builds next.

1047 Games said more than 25 million people have played its games. Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian thanked everyone who worked on Splitgate, SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, and EMPULSE, including those who are no longer with the company.

The message also recognized players who offered feedback, made videos, argued over balance changes, discovered unusual movement techniques, and brought friends into lobbies. Even after active development ends, the team said it will keep playing both games and spending time in the Discord. The co-founders closed by telling players they would see them in the server browser.
