According to some recent leaks, Microsoft’s upcoming handheld Xbox consoles, the Xbox ROG Ally and Xbox ROG Ally X, might come with a hefty price tag. While nothing is official yet, a retail insider known as extras1s shared information hinting that these devices could be among the most expensive handhelds on the market. If true, gamers might want to start saving up.
The leak came in a video posted on June 13, in which extras1s mentioned hearing from “two European retailers” that the Xbox ROG Ally would retail for €599, and the more powerful Ally X would go for €899. If you do the quick math, that’s roughly $700 and $1,000, respectively. Yikes, right? Pre-orders are rumored to open in August with an October launch, but Microsoft’s official channels and Asus have stayed quiet so far.
Asus has already released ROG Ally handhelds without Xbox branding. The first models hit shelves in 2023, priced at $599 and $699. Earlier this year, Asus launched the ROG Ally X at $800. So, the rumored Xbox versions being pricier makes sense if they pack more powerful hardware or Xbox-exclusive features. Still, those European prices might not translate directly to US pricing, so keep that in mind.
Curious about what makes the Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X special? There’s a detailed breakdown of their specs that’s worth checking out. Personally, I’m wondering if the price will scare off some players or if the hype will justify it. What do you think? Is a $1,000 handheld something you’d consider?
