Sometimes a single emoji can stir up a hornet’s nest in the gaming world. Bend Studio, the folks behind Days Gone, dropped a seemingly innocent monocle emoji on their official X account, and Xbox fans swarmed like freakers to fresh meat. You might wonder why a simple emoji would cause such a ruckus, but it’s all about what people want to believe.
Xbox fans immediately latched onto this cryptic post, speculating wildly that an Xbox port of the open-world zombie survival game, originally a PlayStation exclusive, might be coming soon. Some even claim the game was “Xbox coded,” whatever, so. Yikes. It’s a bit of a climb from a monocle emoji to port confirmation, right?
Meanwhile, Bend Studio hasn’t said a word to explain the situation, leaving the door wide open for hopefuls to flood their replies. It’s not the first time this has happened, either. Following the surprise announcement of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox Series X|S, and a job listing hinting at multiplatform expansion, fans have been begging for Sony exclusives to go to other platforms.
That job listing read:
“You will play a very important leadership role in preparing and executing the global commercial strategy for PS Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile. This role is accountable for optimising title profitability, making sure cross-functional alignment, and leading a high-performing team focused on multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and platform partner management.”
Pretty broad, huh? Some folks say it’s just wishful thinking, but others reckon Sony will put more of their first-party PS5 games on Xbox eventually. Titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and now Days Gone get dragged into the rumor mill. But Sony’s been cautious, saying they need to be “really thoughtful about bringing our franchises off-console.” Well, that’s a polite way of saying “don’t hold your breath.”
Microsoft’s aggressive multiplatform approach has made them a top publisher on PS5, which is wild when you think about it. But with hardware sales slowing and the cost of acquisitions piling up, Xbox has to keep options open.
Guess that’s why port begging won’t die anytime soon. PlayStation fans and Xbox fans are stuck in this loop of hope and frustration because Sony mostly talks to investors, not gamers. You gotta ask: why is it so hard for them to just say what’s up?
Oh, and before I forget, right after this talk started, Bend Studio announced the Broken Road DLC for Days Gone is now available on PC via GOG. It includes new modes like Speedrun, Permadeath, and Horde Assault, which ups the horde size for a survival arcade challenge. So yeah, the game’s spreading its wings, but Xbox? Still a mystery.

So, what do you think? Is the monocle emoji just a cheeky tease or a sign of bigger things? Will Days Gone finally make its way to Xbox, or is this all just wishful thinking from fans desperate for more cross-platform love? Wow, port begging sure is a wild ride.
