WWE announced the Attitude Era edition of WWE 2K26 on the January 23 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Pre-orders for the special edition will go live on January 30. The edition’s cover features multiple stars from the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Steve Austin, The Rock, DX, and The Undertaker among others. WWE promoted the edition with a social post that referenced the era’s no-rules image.

The publisher has not revealed who will appear on the standard retail cover for WWE 2K26. The Attitude Era edition will be available to pre-order starting January 30, and further purchase details and edition-specific content were not disclosed with the announcement.
The edition also ties into several match-type additions and returns. Three returning gimmick match types are the Inferno Match, the I Quit Match, and 3 Stages of Hell. The Inferno Match requires one competitor to throw the other into flames around the ring, it first appeared in 2008’s WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 and was last included in WWE 2K14. The I Quit Match, which ends when one wrestler says “I Quit” into a microphone, was first seen in WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role in 2000 and also last appeared in WWE 2K14. 3 Stages of Hell is a best-of-two-of-three contest with each fall using a different stipulation and a selectable match type through WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2006.
The announcement also lists one new gimmick match type for the game: the Dumpster Match. In that match, one competitor must place their opponent in a dumpster and close the lid. There is no full release date yet. The game is expected to be playable on current-generation consoles and on PC via Steam, but the publisher has not confirmed platforms or a launch window beyond pre-orders opening January 30.
