Players testing the Midnight 12.0.1 pre-patch discovered that World Quest gold payouts have been removed in this week’s phase 2 update. A Reddit post by u/minimaxir first highlighted tooltips that no longer list gold rewards.
The World Quests continue to grant standard items. Players still receive Resonance Crystals, Crests, and Bloody Tokens when War Mode is enabled. The extra gold lines that previously appeared in the quest tooltip are gone.
Reports indicate additional gold sources may also be affected. Players say Skyriding purse rewards are not giving gold and that Azj-Kahet Weaver faction bags are also missing their gold payouts. Those claims are coming from multiple threads in testing channels and community posts.
It is not yet clear whether the removals are intentional or a bug introduced by the pre-patch. The change could be an early application of the usual post-expansion gold reduction mechanics, or an unintended side effect of other adjustments in the build. The Midnight pre-patch event began January 27 and runs through the expansion launch on March 2, which may explain why economy changes are appearing now. The pre-patch details note the event schedule and some of the activities currently available.
For players who are using World Quests and similar repeatables to pass time before Midnight, the loss of gold rewards reduces hourly gold income from testing content. Blizzard has not published an official explanation for the disappearance of these payouts at the time of writing.
