Warzone’s Future: Will Black Ops 7 Bring Back Blackout 2 or End Warzone?

Call of Duty fans have been discussing Warzone’s future after the Black Ops 7 reveal, with whispers of Blackout 2 replacing Warzone. Despite these rumors, there’s no concrete evidence that Warzone will end anytime soon. The teaser showed characters dropping into Avalon, a big map familiar from Black Ops 6, sparking speculation about a return to Blackout-style gameplay.

Blackout was the original battle royale mode in Black Ops 4, before Warzone took over in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 and became the series staple. So when the Black Ops 7 trailer displayed wingsuits and a vibe reminiscent of Blackout, many assumed Blackout 2 was coming soon.

There’s no official announcement that Warzone is being retired in favor of Blackout 2. The footage shown at the Xbox Games Showcase was actually from Black Ops 7’s co-op campaign, not the battle royale mode. Historically, battle royale content is revealed closer to a game’s launch, so it’s too early to tell what’s coming.

The rumors mainly stem from a popular X/Twitter post by content creator Reave, who claimed Warzone would be “officially sunsetted” and replaced by Blackout 2 in Season 2 of Black Ops 7, playable only on next-gen consoles and PC. According to Reave, the current Warzone maps Verdansk and Rebirth would remain available but limited to casual solo and quad modes.

However, there’s no clear source for this leak, and no well-established insiders have backed it up. dependable leaker TheGhostOfHope mentioned that Avalon was scrapped for battle royale and repurposed for campaign and Outbreak modes, unless plans changed to support big maps for Warzone on older consoles.

Could Warzone End With CoD 2026?

There’s a possibility Warzone’s run might wrap up with Black Ops 7, but it’s not a done deal. Earlier this year, TheGhostOfHope suggested that current Warfare 4 in 2026 might not include Warzone 3 if Verdansk doesn’t keep players hooked. Without solid player count data across platforms, it’s hard to say how well Verdansk’s comeback has performed, and that won’t necessarily impact Black Ops 7’s launch later this year.

So what’s the takeaway? Warzone isn’t officially ending yet, and Blackout 2 remains in the rumor mill without confirmation. Could Black Ops 7 surprise us with a fresh take on battle royale? Or will Warzone keep soldiering on? Only time will tell.
