Warzone Ranked Play Bug Accidentally Awards Players Top 250 Spots

Warzone Ranked Play is experiencing some leaderboard chaos after an update intended to fix rank placement issues instead handed out up to 5,000 free Skill Rating (SR) points to players. This unexpected boost has pushed many into the Top 250, stirring frustration among the community.

It’s not the first hiccup this season. Earlier, players noticed that Multiplayer lobbies no longer showed player levels, a move that was quickly blamed on a bug. To add to the confusion, ads promoting cosmetic bundles appeared on the loadout screen, which the developers later said was an error. These issues combined have left the launch of Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 4 feeling a bit rocky.

According to Call of Duty insider CharlieIntel, the update intended to fix the starting rank problem. Instead, it granted players the difference in SR, sometimes up to 5,000 points. This sudden jump pushed many into the Top 250 leaderboard spots without the usual effort required.

Skill Rating in Warzone Ranked is supposed to reflect a player’s performance—winning matches and scoring eliminations increase SR, while early eliminations decrease it. Handing out free SR disrupts this balance, making it more challenging for truly skilled players to break into the Top 250 because they now have to catch up to those who got an unearned boost.

Rewards at the end of each season are based on the highest division a player reached. This means some players will receive Top 250 rewards they technically didn’t earn, which could feel pretty unfair for the rest of the community.

Yikes, right? It makes you wonder how mistakes like this slip through, especially when so many rides are on leaderboard accuracy. I’m curious if Activision will adjust rewards or offer clarifications soon.
